New Cwm Farm History - Major Project
Our big story is the construction, decorating and furnishing of the two new self-catering holiday cottages at New Cwm Farm.
We had toyed with the idea for years, and sketched out ideas, which allowed us to obtain planning permission.
Detailed working drawings were completed, and we selected the general contractor for the construction.
Work started in October 2005 and luckily the weather through the winter did not delay work.
The extension to the old cottage created kitchen and shower room on each floor. This was linked to the original cottage by opening two windows in the thick stone wall. The floor in the old cottage was lowered by about a metre before the new floor was laid over the damp-proofing and insulation. Check out the before and after pictures.
A new slate roof was installed on the complete building, and the exterior was re-plastered and repainted. The major construction was completed in August 2006.
Update February 2008 - Connie Gomm has written about living in the farming community on the border.
